I know everyone uses makeup in movies and plays, but in older movies (50s-70s) the men have noticeable eyeliner and mascara on. Why did they do this ? In old movies why did they use makeup on the men? ?
Because the camera tells everything and isn't sparing in any way. Even earlier, say 60 or 70 years ago, the makeup was really thick but was tinkered with and toned down for the lighting and camera lens. Max Factor revolutionized film makeup by inventing a color scheme specifically designed for each skin color and hair shade, especially important in the advent of color. The black%26amp;white film process involved a different form of makeup only noticeable under normal lighting and could be powered down on women when they were in a hurry. Even today,a great many lighting techies and makeup artists don't know how to deal with people of color but that's changing. Max Factor had to invent a makeup specifically for Lena HorneIn old movies why did they use makeup on the men? ?
Cameras and film were not what they used to be back then..Nor was makeup. As technology has improved so have cameras, with differnet lens and effects to help. Also they still use make up in men but because everything has changed so much it's not as noticable.
to make them stand out more on film
