Why do they feel they need makeup even in athletics?In the Olympics- Why do(many of)the women athletes wear makeup when the men do not?
I don't see a problem with it at all. If they want to look their best, especially on camera in front of the entire world, then who's to say it's a bad thing? Just because a woman is an athlete doesn't mean she has to look like a tomboy, no different than a woman who works at a blue-collared, labor-intensive job.

To reply to the OP's statement that I was called out on, yes, look your best! No one ever bats an eye when a news anchor wears makeup, be it man or woman, or an actor/actress. It's the same thing! A person who is in front of the camera in front of BILLIONS of people should not be scrutinized for wearing make-up. As far as the guys not doing it, how do you know? Lets be quite frank: every woman looks better with a bit of makeup.


I think its sexist of you to imply that women can not manage being girly and wanted to look their best and still be incredible athletes.


Being girly and being an athlete are NOT seperate concepts.
Hoe many men wear make up on a daily basis outside of sports? I have only noticed it with the female Chinese gymnastics team. Most others look pretty natural. But most women wear make up every day..men do not. Perhaps since they know they are going to be on TV they want to look good.
It's all about presentation. You'll want to look your best and more beautiful when you're competing against other people. Besides you do want to look great when there are thousands of photographers taking photos of you holding up your Olympic medal right? =)
Some showy sports such as gymnastics and synchronized swimming require it. The women are judged on their appearance as well as their performance.
How do you know the men don't?





Maybe they're just wearing a 'natural' look.
