Why do women wear makeup to try to ';look good'; when most men are turned off by makeup?

Women don't and shouldn't dress for men, they should dress for themselves. If you like it wear it. If you dress for men then you sentence yourself to a lifetime of dressing, and catering to the whims of men. Better to be adored than adoring. Why do women wear makeup to try to ';look good'; when most men are turned off by makeup?
i don't wear make up to try and please men by any means...i wear it to make me feel good about how i look, cover up dark eyes mostly, i don't over do it,,Why do women wear makeup to try to ';look good'; when most men are turned off by makeup?
To hide the real woman under the war paint..When the makeup comes off it usually isn't a pleasent site..Natural beauty is a healthy clean face..Be careful of women who wear too much makeup...They are making up to cover up something...And also think...what will she look like when I wake up next to her after a nite of passion and the bride of Frankenstein is in bed next to me...The girls always get prettier at closing time...
a lot of girls/women put on way too much make-up.. they get carried away, when less is more. Most guys wouldn't notice women wear make-up if they applied it properly
Personally, I only wear makeup to cover up my scars from a car accident from years back. Throughout my childhood and well into adulthood, boys and men alike, ridiculed my bare face and made me feel like less of a person.

Now, I know that true beauty comes from within, but it seems like no one will give me a second glance unless I have makeup on to cover the scars. Once they get to know me and see them, then it's different. I guess for me, it gets my foot in the door rather than having the door constantly slammed in my face.

As for others, I'm not sure. Perhaps, it's self esteem issues of a different sort. Of course, it doesn't help that 80% of the men seem to drool over the likes of Pam Anderson, Cindy Crawford, Halle Berry, etc....all beautiful women w/ makeup, but not so much without (okay, so Halle's the exception, big whoop). Seriously, if you are so turned off by us wearing makeup why are you so turned on by them wearing makeup?
because women, know, and have beauty ideals.

well, that's what I think, because even though I don't wear make up i still try to look my best. *__*

and though I hate to admit it I often compare myself to the *seemingly* perfect people
We are turned off by too much makeup.
Your first answer is pretty good, although not entirely complete. Women should not wear so much makeup that they look like a puppet, or like some painted lady of the streets. A little bit does go a long way though.

As a matter of fact, eventually there will be a force that will require men to do the same sort of makeup thing, under considerable restraint at first, and just a little bit more as the years go on. Ask any makeup consultant and they will verify what I just said here. Men have no reason not to ';do it a little'; as they are washing their face, shaving, and otherwise getting ready for work--';to face the public, who will allow their chosen career to prosper, to face their employers, the ones that will eventually promote or fire them--for goodness sake!

But thus far, society has not allowed men to delve into the makeup sort of thing all that much. And so there you have the problem as to why men, seem to you, as being ';turned off'; by your makeup. Most likely because they can't do it at all themselves to measure up to you at all.

I'll tell you what, most of the women I daily associate with don't wear much, if any, makeup. But the one or two that do, in my opinion, are far more attractive than the rest. Oh well, there again, or so it seems to me.
They are searching for openings in fashion, film,tv,and entertainment industry.
they know most men are superficial so they try to impress them with color!
self esteem
a lot of women are normally ugly, you just dont know cause they wear makeup everytime you see them!
