Why do many women feel the need to wear makeup but men don't have to?

This seems like a double standard to me. I know some men wear makeup but why does society nearly force women to wear it? and feel incomplete without it?Why do many women feel the need to wear makeup but men don't have to?
Society expects it and set up the ground rules and it could be in the past men were better looking for protection towards the fair sex as it drew attention to him Look up the history anyways we gals need the make up to improve our looks and if you do not like make up get you a plain jane.Why do many women feel the need to wear makeup but men don't have to?
i dont wear makeup all the time but i do feel it makes me look better. i think girls just wear it because it makes us look pretty
i believe it is an extension, and natural consequence, of our gender characteristics: men are Visually and Physically Stimulated...that means, what they SEE and FEEL is going to ';attract'; them in the get-go. so women eventually will feel the need to become more and more ';attractive'; to the man, in order to ';seduce'; one.





on the other hand, women are more Emotionally and Mentally Stimulated. so yes, altho physicality plays a part, it is less important than what a man Does, and his ability to ';take care of'; a woman and future family. so a man doesn't NEED to wear Makeup to look attractive... he can for his own confidence (nowadays), but it is completely unnecessary.





and THEN our society has turned that into an industry... women have to look and feel attractive or else they are dumpy and ugly, therefore unwanted. and blah blah blah the rest is a cycle! haha.. hopefully most individuals would like Trustworthy, Respectable, Honest, Good, Positive, Healthy people, whether men or women! :)
I foundation to even out my skin cover flaws,and stuff like eyeshadow,lipgloss to add color.and i enjoy doing this
Men already have something to cover their faces...their zits, their scars, and alot of the time, their emotions. What do woman have? We have our makeup. We use the make-up to cover up, or just to make us look and/or feel prettier.





Society looks to women for beauty and inspiration. If a woman looks all frumpy, then, in olden day beliefs, she wasn't taking care of herself, therefore was undesirable. Now days, we still have those beliefs, only we've taken them to extremes!! But we've also modified them. The belief now, is that if a woman is overweight, or has alot of acne, she doesn't take care of herself.





There are so many problems with young girls, that when they grow up, they think that they have to put make-up on with a spray can. We FEEL the need to put make-up on because television and society tell us we're pretty when we wear it. Besides, have you seen some of the looks girls get from guys when she has make-up on(and look decent with it on)?? It makes woman feel desirable, and wanted. Have you noticed that most of the girls that wear make-up are single or only dating someone? Most married woman only wear make-up when they're going out with their husbands, or on holidays. Unless they have to deal with the public, they don't even wear make-up to work.





It's just one of those things that society has driven into the minds of young girls, and has stayed there, and it's passed on generation to generation. Make-up is here to stay.
This is something that has bothered me for a long long time. I don't want to make women angry here, but I have debated this before. Men don't allow it (period). Whenever another man shows up to his buddies with make-up, or ';shaving his legs for swimming'; - we kick his a**. Women on the other hand foster their slavery to the fashion industry by critiquing each other insesantly. That's why they are all running around anorexic and men are a bunch of phat phuchs. And don't listen to that ';men designed fashion, or makeup or bras or whatever.'; Fine, we did to make money. The bottom line is, if you were a make-up-less hairy b**** - we would still want to phuck you. So really, do you do it because of men or because of other women. In closing, since I know I am going to be the bad guy here - I do think it would be a better world if the aggressive marketing campaign against natural women stopped. You can't have the body of a fourteen your old in your thirties so why is it that is what they always show you as the ideal. And finally, most men I know prefer you without your ';false face (make-up)'; on. And trust me when I tell you, we get over the hairy leg massive bush thing pretty quickly when it comes to us how we like it - steady and frequently. Good luck to all.
You are completely right! women shouldnt feel like they have to wear make-up and many magazines say they dont, but a month later they contradict themselves with ';WAYS TO LOOK BEAUTIFUL'; and ';MAKE-UP TIPS'; printed on the cover. a siciety with out make-up would probably be not well handled, it would be like taking cigaretts of the face of the earth and we'd have a bunch of people having a nicotine fit all at once. Is it too late to solve the make-up problem?
we wear makeup because girls enjoy putting on makeup and doing our nails and hair and stuff because what girl dosent want to look pretty??
Becuse your a guy and guy can wear what ever the hell they want to in public and know one cares. but girls have to waer make up and dress nice becuse they don't some guy to lok at them and say something like this ';ew did you see hear face'; or this ';nasty! did you see her clothes.';
Well society doesn't force us women to wear make-up we jsut grew up seeing pretty movie stars models and singers with make up on . .some girls get less is better some don't i'm the type of girl that will wear earth tones so i look more natural with a little glam . .. some girls put too much on and look better before they went crazy with eye shadow and blush . .guys on the other hand i don't think thta statement hold water because more and more guys are starting to wear cover up to cover blemishes eye liner and mascara to entensify their eyes. its more of a person reference
that is the way that society has always been about women.. they are expected to keep up themselves better and that makes their man better.. men do not have half of the weight on their shoulders that women do.. and makeup to women could be thought of like a wall that they might put up to make themselves feel better about the way that they look or it might make some women act more courageous.. and it just makes some women feel good about themselves.. but make up just was not made for men to wear.. but if a man chooses to wear it then that is his choice.. i do not think that men or women should be judged for wearing make up..
im not sure why..


but i feel more pretty and much more comfortable without it..

Most married women don't wear makeup????? I don't know a single married woman who does not wear makeup. I have been married 20 years, and ALWAYS wear makeup ( except at the gym and to bed)





On to your question,,,, SO funny because I was just saying to hubby the other night that I think it is unfair that women have the advantage of wearing makeup and men are made to feel effeminate if they choose to. i say, a little concealer and some eyeliner, if it works for a woman, it can work for a man.... just look at rockstar supernova this summer. Lukas and Toby? HOT. Dave Navarro? HOT, Tommy Lee? HOTTTTTT. makeup on everyone of 'em. Damn sexy 'cause it plays your better features, hides your lesser ones, and shows you have a set of balls, to be your own man, too.
all the add's on the tv and in magazines showing beautiful women etc the media has alot to do wit it they force women into thinkin they have to be the most beautiful or the preetiest etc etc
Because if women look good, guys will like them (more). So that's why they wear make-up. I sometimes wear makeup because it just takes too much time sometimes. I defenetly don't feel incomplete without it. I feel free =)
Men are confident in themselves...they act all studly....women are insecure and unconfient...without eyeliner i look really sleepy idk it is a feminem thing. Women dont have to wear makeup either. I wouldnt except for the fact that i care what i look like.

Well that have to do with the patriarchal society we live in. Women are supposed to be nice little jewels, take care of the children and please her husband.


So girl is brought up in this world, with all the patriarchal media surrounding her, the people behind the media is to ignorant or just don dare to change things...


Don't miss take me, I love beautifully women, but I don't really comply with the general idea that that is al they are, and that girls wear pink and boys blue.
Make up if applied correctly can and will make anyone look better and change our looks completely it hides the flaws and gives the wearer more confidence to face the day or night.
Cause women are much more serious about their complexion that men are of theirs. i mean, men go out into the city, strip and jump off bridges! i have never seen a women take off more than her sweater.... i dont wear make-up... i like the way i am without all that crap all over my face. i've had this scar over my left eyebrow since i was two. nobody cares. so i think all women who wear make-up should grow-up and get over it. it dosen't make anybody like you more than they already do.
