Serious question. Why do women dress up and use makeup and men dont?

Dont men want to look good as well? Why is it that us women have to spend hours in front of a mirror or at the hairdresser and guys just need 5 minutes to get ready?

I am asking this seriously to get your point of views. Dont tell me that I need makeup or anything stupid like that. In other words, no jokers please.Serious question. Why do women dress up and use makeup and men dont?
Men want to look too, but what's considered good looking is situationally relative. I can't think of to many situations where a man wearing makeup would be considered good looking. It is just not part of the culture. Natural is the look for men. I think women look better when then go natural too.

As far as clothes, the clothes one chooses vary with the situation. In the circles I travel men and women dress equally casual. I have no interest in getting dressed up, or seeing women get dressed up.

Makeup and dressing up is all so pretentious. Let's just be real and natural--men and women.Serious question. Why do women dress up and use makeup and men dont?
because you're ugly Report Abuse

you dont have to wear makeup if you dont need it. Obviously a lot of women are ugly; whereas I get up and wash my face and I'm good to go Report Abuse

because when we masure a woman its beauty is one of the essencial point than she muts do different think to always be beautifull

But when we measure a man the essencial is his personality and caractere
Usually, the goal of wearing makeup is to make the wearer more attractive. For most women that involves simulating the appearance of health and youth. Foundation is worn to present the (idealized) appearance of the smooth, unblemished skin of youth. Eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara is worn to make the eyes appear larger, and thus more youthful and innocent. Blush is worn to mimic the appearance of young skin flushed after exercise. Lipstick makes lips look larger, hides imperfections, and can make lips look more like the lips of a younger person, with thinner skin.

One sociological theory of makeup (among other things) claims that the role of modern cosmetics is not just to simulate youthfulness and health, but also, to an extent, sexual arousal. Wide eyes, flushed cheeks, and red lips can all be indicators of arousal, although most women would probably call this style of makeup ';looking sexy.';

A critique of cosmetics (by Judy Grahn, among other feminists) contends that makeup mimics on a woman's face the effects of a beating. Blackened eyes, bruised cheeks, and bloody lips are another way of viewing ';looking sexy.';

More general than enhancing beauty, the change of physical appearance is achieved by specialized forms of cosmetics (stage makeup), used to present actors in roles in the theatre and in screen productions. A wide variety of effects are possible and may go so far as to make the actor appear completely nonhuman through the use of prosthetic appliances. Makeup for stage and TV is usually used even for natural roles, for example news reporters, to counter the paling effect of professional lighting. Makeup is also used to train medical professionals to recognize and treat injuries (moulage) and clinically to hide scars and blemishes that might otherwise impair social interaction.

Makeup may also be used to make one self look older. Young girls often try this at a young age with their mother's makeup. As they get older they realize that it is more to their advantage to look younger and sexier. Halloween is a time when any one young or old, male or female may use makeup and not feel out of place.

Its only been in the last 100 years or so that men have stopped using ';makeup';. But then you have to wonder what all that hair gel and camo paint is all about. If you pay attention, youll see mens cosmetics making a come back.
So.......you don't know men who do their hair, wear makeup, and even sport dresses?

Cuz I do
Because women are expected to,and men are not,not fair is it?oh well.
Because in todays society there is more stress on a womans beauty instead of her brain.
Ew gross, I wouldn't date a man that wore make up! I would think he's too vain about his looks. Plus he'd look totally weird!

Actually guys need longer than 5 minutes. Guys prep, but differently. They shower, shave, use deodourant, etc. I like a man to look clean and neat.

I also prefer a man who wants to do things for me, and not things for himself. I think it's in their nature not to spend much time on themselves because they define themselves by what they do, not how they look. Take a look at how much men will fuss over their uniforms. It's because it defines what they do.

When I compliment my husband on how he looks, he is either embarrased and dismisses the comment, or he tries to ignore it. However when I compliment on a job, or thank him for doing something polite for me, he practically beams and puffs his chest out.
I Think They Do To Inpress Them.
i say why can't man wear make-up its a free country they can wear make-up if they want!!!
I think woman dress up n do there makeup becuz woman care more about themselves then men do woman alwayz wana look there best and impress poeple and men dont really care as much as us women do.
I think god made women special.I mean,we have the kids and cook and clean.Men just.......go to work and find girls attractive.All men have to do is brush their teeth and comb their hair.Women brush their teeth,curl or straight'n their hair,Put on base,powder,eyeshadow etc.this may not be much help,but this is the way I feel about it.Hope your question is answered.I wonder the same thing as well.
because the man with makeup is like women with moustache and beard.
